Death Note

Death Note Ryuk Shinigamis

Death Note is the first anime I’ve watched back in September 2013, and to me, it was a life-changing choice! I wasn’t really into anime before, if we rule out the old classics everyone has more or less watched (Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball etc), but I definitely changed my mind after watching what I’d call a true masterpiece, and not just to anime lovers!

Light Yagami is my favourite character ever, I can relate to him and his idealism and determination, so I thought it would have been interesting, after visiting some conventions in Northern Italy, to literally try being him! It looked like a fun experience and I had always been fascinated by cosplay as a true form of art in general.

So, Light Yagami also became the first character I’ve shyly tried to cosplay in April 2019, when I still knew literally nothing about cosplay, nor how to properly style a wig, nor about the unwritten rules of this amazing world. And that’s how everything started: without even trying I got approached by people who recognised me as Light, joked about the anime and asked me for pics together (even though at my eyes my very first Light looked terrible)! I got in love with that feeling, not to mention the friends I made and promised to keep in touch with at every con possible.

Since then, I got extremely interested in this hobby and did anything possible to improve, including experimenting a make-up that would work well on my face features, crafting a very special version of Light by creating a scythe and a pair of dark wings, getting more fitting clothes, learning to wear cosplay lenses and working on posing in general.

I even created my own interpretation of a female Light, a genderbend cosplay, and decided to experiment with Mello and Near as well. In the future, I’d love to try the other two main characters: Misa and L!

A genderbend concept of Light and L, I like re-interpreting characters this way!

I definitely owe a lot to this ambitious self-confident guy!
